COLONEL GREGG J. HESTERMAN

Colonel Gregg J. Hesterman is the Vice Commander, 178th Wing, Springfield Air National Guard Base, Ohio. 

 
As the vice commander, Hesterman assists the commander in executing the remotely piloted aircraft MQ-1 Predator mission. In addition, the 178th Wing is responsible for the 178th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group missions which involve close coordination with the National Air and Space Intelligence Center, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.

Hesterman received his commission as a United States Navy Ensign through the Naval Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program at Iowa State University in December 1991. From there, he was assigned to Naval Air Station Pensacola, Fla. to begin training as a naval aviator. In January 1994, he received his Navy wings at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas and was assigned to Fleet Reconnaissance Squadron FOUR (VQ-4), stationed at Tinker AFB, Okla. While assigned to VQ-4, Hesterman held positions as a Public Affairs Officer, Maintenance Officer, Ground Safety Officer and Crew Scheduler. He also attained qualifications as an E-6A Aircraft Commander and Mission Commander. In February 1998, he was transferred to Flying Training Squadron Eight (FTS-8), at Vance Air Force Base, Okla. to become a T-37A instructor. While assigned to FTS-8, he held multiple positions, attaining the role of Flight Commander prior to leaving the Navy in March 2001.
Upon his separation from the Navy, Hesterman joined the 121 Air Refueling Wing (ARW) as a KC-135 pilot. While assigned to the 121st, he held multiple positions to include Operations Support Flight Commander and Mission Support Group Commander. Prior to his current position, the colonel was the Vice Commander, 121 ARW, Rickenbacker ANGB, Ohio.
