Lt. Col. Michael E. Roark, incoming commander of the 178 Intelligence Group, receives the unit guidon from Col. Gregg Hesterman, commander of the 178th Wing, during a change of command ceremony August 3, 2019, at Springfield Air National Guard Base in Springfield, Ohio. The passing of the guidon, a military tradition, symbolizes Roark assuming command of the group from the outgoing commander.
Today, we collectively mourn as we say goodbye to Master Sgt. Charlotte Ortiz, who passed away Monday. Our deepest and most heartfelt sympathies are with her family, friends, and colleagues as they go through this difficult time. Ortiz was an extraordinary Airman and an exceptional leader. She will receive full military honors for her selfless service and dedication to our community, our state, and our nation.
Master Sgt. Dallas Root, a 1st Sgt. with the 178th Wing, processes through a pre-deployment line for an annual training exercise over August drill at Springfield Air National Guard Base, Springfield, Ohio.
