Congressman Warren Davidson, U.S. Representative for Ohio’s 8th district, visited the 178th Wing July 30 to learn about the mission and meet with Airmen.

“We think it’s very important to understand what’s going on with the 178th Wing and to understand any needs that might exist,” said Ben Thaeler, Davidson’s district director.

178th Wing Commander Col. Gregg Hesterman guided Davidson throughout the base.

“Having a congressional delegation that understands our mission, our current involvement in world affairs, as well as the ability for future missions is something we never want to take for granted,” Hesterman said.

Davidson started his tour and mission brief at the 178th Intelligence Group where he met with Airmen from all four Intelligence Squadrons and the Incident Awareness and Assessment team.

Davidson then headed to the 178th Operations Group where he learned about the surveillance and reconnaissance mission.

“To have him here to learn about not only what we are doing at the national level but also for domestic operations is really key, because we play a very vital part in both worlds,” said Hesterman.

“When the congressman goes back to Washington he can represent all of the folks who not only call this base their place of work but also their home,” said Thaeler. “When those conversations are happening like ‘what does our military need’ and ‘how can I better represent those needs,’ we want the 178th to be part of that conversation every time.”
