123 ACS Airmen impress Chief of the National Guard Bureau Published Sept. 18, 2015 By Airman Rachel Simones 178th Wing Public Affairs SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- More than 120 Airmen with the 123rd Air Control Squadron, a 178th Wing geographically separated unit, participated in Exercise Northern Strike 2015 at the Combat Readiness Training Center in Alpena, Mich., throughout July. Army Gen. Frank Grass, the Chief of the National Guard Bureau, visited the 123rd ACS deployed radar site, July 26. He recognized superior performers and showed his appreciation for the 123rd Airmen's efforts. "This is a great representation of how the Ohio National Guard supports the overall mission," Grass said. The 123rd ACS provided critical command and control battle management, allowing the commander to have full battlespace awareness for more than 200 sorties during a two-week period. Grass signed a 123 ACS, Blue Ash, Ohio poster that was presented to the squadron. "Ohio Air National Guard, thanks for serving your nation and the great state of Ohio," Grass wrote. Exercise Northern Strike is a joint multi-national combined arms training exercise that brings ground and air units from four coalition countries and more than 20 states together to train in realistic combat situations.
